Mountain Biking Lake District - Save Your Skin

When taking part in extreme sports, riders often push the limits of their ability and this is when accidents can happen and injuries result. Mountain Biking in the Lake District may take you to areas where the sport becomes extreme.

Avoid accidents if you can, but at some point in your riding you might have one. The most likely parts of the body to attract injury are the ’sticky out bits’. That is to say the head, shoulders, elbows, knees, and hands. Over the years I’ve had anything from dislocated collar bone to gravel rash ( did I hear someone think that it is down to c**p riding - maybe right there!)

Because you are still determined to go riding, you can protect yourself with an almost bewildering range of body protective clothing to choose from. Very different from when I started out.

To decide what type of protective clothing you might need, take a close look at your ability and the ride you intend to tackle. The assess the likely risks to your body and choose armour accordingly.

Whatever type of riding you do you will definitely need a good helmet. As well as your helmet, gloves and eye protection are essential. I favour padded palm, fingerless gloves and a wrap around type of eye shades that have coloured, interchangeable lenses. After that, for the less serious rides you may just want to protect your elbows and knees.

If you intend to compete or do the really serious stuff then you will be looking for full body armour to protect your shoulders, chest, back ,shins and thighs also. This type of protection is a very personal choice and quite expensive; so ask around your MTB companions and see what they recommend. Then make your own decision on what to buy.

So you are in full body armour and immortal right? Wrong, all you are is better protected so do carry a first aid kit and know how to use it. If you are riding solo , just in case you have an accident, set up your first aid kit before you go out so you can use it single handed.

If you do come to grief, would you lose earnings? If you would, then look for a good MTB insurance policy to cover you. It is not optional for the self-employed.

Now off you go, get out your map and check the Lake District’s many remote bridleways or maybe try Whinlatter or Grizedale this week - it is up to you.

Tips For Buying Consumer Electronics - Digital Camera Buying Guide For the Casual Photographer

If you are going to buy your first digital camera, you will want to research your purchase so that you don’t end up being clueless on things like megapixels or what is the best storage for you. The salesperson will try to gang up on you and give you a lot of options, but you don’t want to get confused. You will want to be prepared so that they don’t intimidate you. You will find that when you do a little bit of research before you go to buy a camera, you will be able to save some time and help yourself out a lot.

For a general rule, you will find that digital cameras are a lot cheaper online or at chain department stores, because they have access to supplies. However, in either of those places, you will not get the service or knowledge of a real photography professional, so it might be worth your money to explore some of the nearby specialty camera shops in your neighborhood. At the specialty shops, you will be able to find that the salesman and people who own the shops know a lot about the products and will be more than willing to help you learn the ropes too.

In specialty stores, as in department stores and other places where cameras are sold, the merchandise is usually kept in a locked case. You will want to take the time to ask some question and see all of the cameras that you are interested in or that you can afford within the budget that you have set. You can compare stats such as photo quality and features on a sheet, but without holding the camera and testing it out, you will not be able to tell if it is a good fit for you.

For those who aren’t using a digital camera for professional purposes, then you don’t really take about the quality of the camera compared to the price. You will want to think about going with a lower resolution so that you can save some money. You will want to decide what is important to you before you go to the store.

There happens to be more other things that you will want to consider, however, you should learn about how to buy a digital camera, before you go and purchase one. You don’t want to buy one on impulse. It is very important to understand the quality that you are getting and how it relates to the budget. You will want to have a clear budget so that you can make a good and solid purchase.

There are many things to take into account when selecting a digital camera. But an informed decision is a wise decision. From personal experience I can tell you the D3100 from Nikon is the best. To learn more about the D3100 click on one of those links.

There are several brands producing secure digital memory cards. To name some are Sandisk, Toshiba, Siemens AG, Panasonic, Sony, Olympus, Fujifilm and many more. Some of the electronic devices producers have tie ups with the creators of the SD cards. This gives them more opportunity to make sales and to become more popular.

Competition on this industry is very rigid that’s why the companies really spend a lot on research and development to make their product better and more appealing to their potential customers. Reliability of the product is also important therefore the quality should not be compromised. Secure digital memory cards are very affordable but the prices may differ according to preferred brand and capacity. Consumers can easily get this product over the market because of the booming industry of electronics. Since electronic devices are almost a necessity, SD cards also made their way to penetrate the market. Critical Tips When Buying SLR Cameras

You will find a number of various topics I appreciate writing for and my current favourite topic is actually a website that discusses various audience response system but I also have a passion for digital cameras, and here I am sharing some of my top tips for how to buy them.

How do you choose a digital SLR camera? If you want something more from your photographs, then the SLR camera will give that to you because it is designed to do so. Variety, selection, options, features… all can sometimes equal confusion and frustration - not to worry. This article is all about letting you discover the wonders of digital SLR as well as terrific strategies to find one that has your name on it - perfecto.

Ok, if you’re new to this, then what you need to know, and do, is check out what’s called the maximum aperture for any digital SLR camera you want to consider. When you talk about aperture, what you’re really referring to is how much light is allowed into the camera. If you ever want to take good pictures of anything moving, then you want a fast shutter speed; and a wide aperture will also have a faster shutter speed.

The maximum aperture feature gives you more flexibility with the finished product, and you can remove or keep as much blur as you want. Maximum aperture SLR’s will also naturally add more of a soft background look and feel to your photos, and then you can proceed to add or remove highlights, etc. There is more engineering and design that comes with the maximum aperture SLR, so for that and other reasons it will cost you more. If you will be mainly taking still shots, you may not be overly concerned with this.

If you really want something like image stabilization, then you’ll have to specifically look for it because it’s a feature not found in all digital SLR cameras. All image stabilization is about are making corrections for camera shake, and you can get much sharper photos in certain conditions. If that’s something that appeals to you, then you’ll have to be sure to look for it because it’s not found in all SLR’s. No worries if you’re not photography savvy because there are a lot of features that work automatically, and you’ll be able to take great shots.

Focal length is something to consider when looking at digital SLR cameras. The important consideration with focal length is the extent of magnification you’ll be getting with your camera. Increasing focal length gives you greater magnification, making things appear to be closer. The opposite holds true as well: lower focal length means less magnification, and that means you will have a much wider perspective in your shot. The kind of focal length you need will depend on what type of photos you are going to take. Most digital SLR cameras have a zoom lens that allows you to adjust the focal length.

There are some great and unique benefits of using a digital SLR camera, but be sure to know what you’re looking for and why you want one. You have to be careful about features so you don’t overspend for something you really don’t want or need. So these tips will get you up and running with making the best choice about a digital SLR camera.

Downhill Mountain Biking Lake District

It is important to develop a correct riding technique for downhill MTB riding. If your approach is not correct for this type of activity, your comfort and safety will be compromised.

Downhill riding is somewhat difficult to master, and is also scary for newer riders because of how fast everything moves, leaving little time for reaction.

The good news is that you can develop your downhill riding techniques so that Mountain Biking in the Lake District will be what you want to do again and again.

Hazards will occur when downhill riding. You need to be aware of your surroundings, scanning the trail ahead and picking your line in advance. Keep your weight at the centre or forward of centre on the bike and never just sit and let the bike run off with you. Remember that you should control the bike and not let gravity do the job for you.

Try to keep your balance when riding downhill. The position of your feet is critical here and they should be level with each other. You should not need to pedal actively down a gradient unless it is a speed trial so you are usually aiming for a safe, crash free ride.

If you have ridden any sort of bike before, you probably know what happens if you clap on the brakes too hard - Yes, over the bars you go, and when riding downhill, this effect is magnified greatly by the extra momentum. So, get used to how your brakes act somewhere less challenging before riding downhill. Softly softly is best and plan ahead to avoid using them if you can.

Brakes should never be applied when biking around corners. It takes practice to obtain the proper speed before approaching a corner. Be aware that front brakes are generally more powerful than back brakes, and be careful in their use. Locking up the wheels can lead to a dangerous situation and cause an accident. Over zealous use of the back brake could cause skidding, which can also result in a wipe out. It is best to use the brakes as little as possible when Mountain Biking Lake District. Remember to ride within your capabilities and by going on one of the many courses available, you can always improve your standard.

There is little better than having a great day out and going home on a high, safe and well for your next ride. We are very lucky in the Lake District to have such great scenery and trails and Mountain Biking Lake District website will keep you in touch.

Surviving Kidney Cancer: What Are The Odds?

The kidney cancer survival rate is calculated from a number of factors that relate to both the characteristics of the kidney cancer itself, and also to the patient who has the disease..

Factors that are connected to kidney cancer itself include the type, stage, grade and the location. A cancer that is localized within the kidney is less dangerous than one that has spread to other parts of the body (a process known as metastasis), and therefore treatment is more likely to be successful. As far as patient-related factors are concerned, researchers must take age, ability to undergo treatment, and general state of health into consideration in coming up with their numbers.

Statistics compiled by researchers who have examined data using these factors have produced a general kidney cancer survival rate chart. The statistics quoted below focus only on the most common type of kidney cancer, known as renal cell carcinoma. It occurs much more often than other types.

Typically, the kidney cancer survival rate is shown in percentages. In other words, a certain percentage of patients who have the same type of cancer at roughly the same stage will still be alive after a defined period of time.

It should be said that the kidney cancer survival rate is a generalization based on a huge number of cases that occurred over a long time. There’s no way to predict what will happen in any individual case.

The interval used to measure the kidney cancer survival rate is generally 5 years. In other words, a percentage of those who have been diagnosed with kidney cancer will live for at least five years.

The kidney cancer survival rate is typically calculated and shown in a number of ways.. The statistics you’ll find below reflect research done from 1995-2001. It compares the survival rate of kidney cancer patients to the population as a whole.

During this interval, the overall survival rate for kidney cancer patients was 64.6 percent.

There was a further breakdown by gender and race.

* 64.7 percent of Caucasian men were still alive after five years
* 64.5 percent of Caucasian women lived at least five years
* The number for African American Men was slightly lower: 61.8 percent
* African American women enjoyed the highest survival rate of all at 65.9 percent

The survival rate also depends on the stage the cancer has reached by the time it’s diagnosed. A higher stage assignment means the cancer has spread more and will therefore be more difficult to treat.

53 percent of those with kidney cancer find out they have the disease while it is still confined to the kidneys and has not spread to other tissues or organs (a process known as metastasis).

20 percent of all kidney cases are diagnosed in a so-called “regional” stage. This means the disease can now be found in lymph nodes, tissues, or organs that are close to the origin of the cancer (one or both kidneys).

22 percent of cases are discovered after the disease has reached the so-called “distant stage,” meaning it has spread to other parts of the body far beyond the kidneys.

Staging information was unclear in the remaining cases that were part of the research..

As you would expect, patients who were diagnosed in an early stage were more likely to survive for the longest period of time.

* When kidney cancer was diagnosed before it had spread to other tissues or organs, 90 percent of patients lived five years or more.
* The numbers were less encouraging when cancer had spread to the immediate region around the kidneys, with only 60 percent reaching the five year survival mark.
* The survival rate was only 9.7 percent when cancer had spread to distant organs and tissues elsewhere in the body.
* Information on stages was unclear, unknown or undiagnosed for the rest of the patients in the study.

The United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Northern Europe have the highest incidence of kidney cancer, according to the U.S. National Cancer Institute. The lowest percentage occurs in Thailand, China, and the Philippines. Of all cancer cases diagnosed in the United States, 1 in every 33 is kidney cancer.

Smokers have a higher risk of getting kidney cancer by approximately double. The risk is even greater for smokers with renal pelvis cancer, with four times as many getting the disease as non-smokers.

Related topics: kidney cancer survival and renal cell carcinoma.

Of course, the proper training can actually enhance your inherent talent and help you sharpen your skills in the art of digital photography.

Digital photography, being a child of the internet and the digital revolution that has swept our lives via personal computers, can be delivered in a myriad of ways and at a speed that was unheard of prior to the arrival of this technology. We can deliver the photos via email, by posting them to an online gallery or by burning them to a DVD or CD so the customer can order lots more shots for the same cost and have them delivered in a way that easy to view and store.

If you’re looking for some good resources about digital photography, digital imaging services and reviews, there are lots of them online. By searching online, you can find a wide display of samples of digital images and see how digital photography can fix the quality of your photos. Digital Cameras - Possibly The Best Tips You’ll Ever Come Across

Digital cameras all break sooner or later, either because of accidental damage or because of normal wear and tear. One thing you need to bear in mind before you buy a digital camera is that they don’t last as long as film cameras. Many people have got film cameras which are twenty years old or more, but you’re certainly never going to find this with digital cameras.

Some makes and models have design problems. For example, the Canon A70 digital camera tends to have black lines running across the screen. The vast majority of digital cameras will however simply fail because of mechanical failure.

Should you rather stay away from digital cameras? The answer to that is No”, because once you purchase one, you’ll never think about photography in the same way again, and you’ll also be sorry you left it so long. With that said, you need to accept the fact the day will come when you camera will fail.

For some, this knowledge may keep them from spending top dollar on a fancy camera; others simply accept it as the sole downside of working with digital. The most important thing is to do your homework before you buy-any fundamental design flaws will be quickly apparent in user reviews.

Never be tempted to store your pictures on one memory card. Upon returning from a holiday in Asia I immediately inserted one of our memory cards into my card reader so that I could download my pictures. For some unknown reason the card was blank, and I was left feeling devastated having lost more than 200 photographs. I did manage to recover approximately 90%, but it did cost me $250, and I still have to accept the fact that the remaining 10% were lost for good.

Flash memory cards are not flawless. Even though losing images is for the most part very rare, it can and does happen from time to time. Fortunately for me, my pictures were distributed between five different cards or else I would have lost all my pictures. In order to avoid disappointment, rather take four or five 256MB cards with you instead of a single 1GB card.

So many people take the most amazing pictures with their digital cameras, and then they download them onto their computers, and that’s where they stay. When this happens, nobody else will be able to enjoy the pictures you took while you were away traveling. Always make sure you print at least a few of the pictures so that they can be put on display for all to see.

There are nowadays a number of online image hosting and printing companies such as Kodak Gallery and Snapfish for example. These companies can convert your digital pictures into top quality prints of any size. All you need to do is upload your pictures to their websites, and then you can go ahead and order your prints. You can also have them printed onto things like calendars, t-shirts, and mouse pads.

If you really enjoy the sight of your own photos, then why not use them as a screen saver on your PC? To do so, all you have to do is right-click on your desktop, click on the properties tab, click screen saver, and then click settings. At that point you’ll be able to choose which pictures you wish to include in the screen saver and you’ll also be able to choose how long each picture is displayed for and in what manner the pictures are displayed.

Find here a lot of digital camera reviews & tips to help you to make your choice and select the best camera for you. You can also check the best digital cameras articles.
