Mountain Biking For Novices

Posted at 6:31 am under Recreation and Sports

Mountain biking is a great way to explore the outdoors, stay in shape, or just have fun. Racing down the side of a mountain is a lot of fun indeed, although it can also be quite dangerous. Even though it’s dangerous, if you ride with caution, it can be enjoyed by the entire family.

There are three varying styles of mountain biking- downhill, free riding and cross-country. Even though the different styles are similar in some ways, they still require different skills. The style that you pick will determine the type of mountain bike you get.

Mountain biking is riding on an unpaved surface. Many areas have specific locations designed for mountain biking. You should check if the area you are riding in has any rules and regulations concerning mountain biking, as well as any designated routes.

You can also find groups that have mountain bike rides and competitions. You should be able to find local groups on the internet or the local paper. Join a group with a range of experienced riders so they can give you advice and teach you new skills.

You need to be fit to be a mountain biker. You are bound to suffer some falls and subsequent bruises but with enough practice you should stop falling off, or at least get really good at falling!

Selecting Your Mountain Bike

Personal choice should be the biggest factor in choosing your mountain bike. Bikes come in all styles, shapes, and prices, which will make selecting one for yourself very difficult indeed.

You can use the internet to carry out price comparisons and get detailed descriptions of certain bikes. Before you buy a bike, always ask to try it out first. Ensure that your bike fits you well in terms of comfort, size and how it feels when changing gear.

Above all, remember to stay safe when mountain biking and use the correct safety equipment.
