Where To Find Howling Mountain Bike Action - San Juan Howler!

For individuals who are looking for unmatched rustic mountain bike action, Nicaragua’s San Juan Howler off-road racing series is a very unique, premier sporting event. Guatemela’s El Reto del Quetzal and Costa Rica’s La Ruta de los Conquistadores have longer histories, but Howler’s offers a unique attraction. Participants in this Central American race have the opportunity to experience Howler monkeys up close and naturally along the race route. And, of course, the San Juan Howler series races for 18K, 28K or 42K that take place on December 11, 2010 are a moniker that is a must-ride.

San Juan Howler Race Trail

Why do Howler mountain bikers find this trail mesmerizing? From San Juan del Sur, a charming coastal town on the Pacific coast, bikers wind uphill. Fast. From steep switchbacks and uphilling into cool mountain forests (or montanos), mountain biking in Nicaragua becomes an exceptional experience.

Billy Molina is one of my favorite mountain bikers! He’s lived in Nicaragua for almost 15 years, but before then, he raced bikes on the U.S. pro circuit. Finds this a thrilling experience. You can cross various impediments under Howler’s course. Every single thing is natural. This could be aptly named a real thriller. In the span of a couple kilometers, you traverse vastly different kinds of terrain — lowlands by the sea, mountain peaks, everything in between. [I:http://www.picmig.com/freedownloads/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/SunamitaLimandBrianRichter9.jpg]If you see things like howler monkeys, beautifully colored birds flying through the sky and colored crabs running through the lowlands. The odds are that Mother Nature is just trying to show off. Billy smiles.

The Howler Moniker

[I:http://www.picmig.com/freedownloads/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/SunamitaLimandBrianRichter8.jpg]Not many have heard of howling monkeys either, the loudest land animals. (Only whales are louder.) The males grunt, howl, cackle and emit surreal sounds at dawn and at dusk. However, they’re safe to whiz by on mountain bikes. Howlers are by nature, “tree potatoes,” hanging out from trees literally, by their tails. About 80 percent of the time howler moneys lie around, napping.

The stunning beauty of Nicaragua’s eco-environment is enhanced by gorgeous views of the sea and mountains, and the Howler trail celebrates all three. Billy affectionately calls “Land of Lake and Volcanoes”. He said, “Once people visit, the unimaginable beauty is lodged in their memories like scenes from a scene fiction movie. ”

Central American Mountain Biking

There are many reasons to take a mountain bike holiday in Central and South America. Magazines such as Mountain Bike and Bike are starting to notice. La Ruta, crowned the world’s toughest mountain bike, has Lance Armstrong quipping, “Oh well for that one I have to train! ”

San Juan is hosting the Howler mountain bike race. Event organizer, Larry Thraen said, “The promotion of mountain bike racing is Central America is our first priority and the best way to accomplish that task is to sponsor the San Juan Howler race.” We’re firmly convinced that the best results happen out of team work. “What they are really trying to do is create a buzz about the world-class regional event, in 2011, with the MTB Pan American Championship Race.

Remain focused. Begin your training program now.

And we will see you in Central America a favorite place for mountain bike action. San Juan Howler is just one of many places for either mountain bike racing or a great mountain bike holiday! Did you say there was surfing to?? Hhhhuummm.. mountain biking surfing all in the same place. I could handle that.

Mountain Bike Action - December 11, 2010 - San Juan Howler

Let us show you how easy it is to rock to Central America’s newest premier mountain bike action racing scene-Nicaragua’s San Juan Howler.

San Juan Howler, Nicaragua’s Mountain Bike Racing

San Juan Howler is an undiscovered premier mountain bike race in Central America that literally rocks seasoned mountain bikers and those new to cycling adventures. Young compared to Guatemala’s El Reto del Quetzal and Costa Rica’s La Ruta de los Conquistadores, and ounce for ounce just as exciting, Howler’s third annual race on December 11, 2010 juices up adrenalin on Nicaragua’s pristine mountain trails.

Howler, what makes it so unique?

It’s totally refreshing to find mountain bike action that is purely gratifying in connecting body, mind, spirit and nature at a time when we’re jaded out of our senses and craving for unusual experiences. [I:http://www.picmig.com/freedownloads/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/SunamitaLim3.jpg]

“Test of Metal” for Cycles and Riders

A February 2010 participant, Rod Dagneau’s photo essay Mountain Biking in the Second Poorest Country in the Western Hemisphere, outline’s how Bob Bombardier’s, Howler’s course is “strung together horse and foot trails, steep chundery and loose descents, dry stream beds and constructed several kilometers of new single track.”

Rod also points out that Nicaragua is the third safest country in the Americas after Canada and Chile. Coupled with a low foreign currency exchange rate, San Juan Howler is a mountain biker’s dream come true-to “test the metal” of a person’s true spirit with his or her mountain bike while racing on unspoiled terrain.

Making Howler Rock

Registering for this cheap mountain bike holiday treat is real easy.

* Sign up online at, wwwsanjuanhowler.com (Wouldn’t it be nice to surprise someone with a Howler gift?)

* Write larry@bodhin.com

* Or, call toll-free 866-GO-BURRO from the U.S.

* Stop by the offices of Grupo Max in San Juan del Sur, 9-5, Monday to Friday

* Not quite sure? Well then, just show up one hour before the race starts on December 11, 2010 and you can still be a shoo-in Howler mountain bike racer

[I:http://www.picmig.com/freedownloads/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/SunamitaLim4.jpg] San Juan Howler mountain bike action is organized by Bodhin Adventures of San Juan del Sur. Owner Larry Thraen’s goal is, “to offer a great race, for a great cause,” for athletes and their supporters, while also benefiting the local community. Long after athletes have returned home, two charities continue to rock with proceeds from Howler - Comunidad Connect and Fundacion Tierra. US$10,000 is the goal set to be raised for these two nonprofits.

People Power Pedals San Juan Howler To New Mountain Biking Heights

Central America’s newest mountain bike race - the San Juan Howler, has morphed into a premier sports event showcasing Nicaragua’s natural beauty. Make sure you check mark December 11, 2010 for the Howler series races which include 18K, 28K and 42K.

The vision and dedication of the Bodhin Adventure Services race organizers, based in Juan del Sur on Nicaragua’s Pacific coastline has brought this race to fruition. This unforgettable mountain race also is thankful to the race participants, sponsors, and volunteers. Visitors delighted to visit this destination hidden diamond. Plus the locals get to compete alongside their sports heroes, but the Howler benefits a cash-strapped economy such as Nicaragua’s when affluent adventure travelers from other countries seek their nirvana with this race.

How Participants Pedal-Power Howler

Take for instance Tara Walsh & Rod Dagneau from, Canada. Tara Walsh was the only female competitor and Rod placed second in Howler’s elite division in the 2009 race. Race organizer Larry Thraen notes, “In addition to donating with their bikes-Tara and Rod got together with a bunch of sponsors who could not attend and flew down a bike box stuffed with new gloves, glasses, jerseys, helmets, plus bike parts such as tires, brake pads and reflectors. Nearly everyone took home something from the race! And you know reflectors here are a big thing. Many of the locals ride their bikes at night with no reflectors, lights or light clothing. It is extremely difficult to see them.”

[I:http://www.picmig.com/freedownloads/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/SunamitaLim6.jpg]“It’s wonderful to see the impact by donating to the cause and how it can touch the community - especially after witnessing the huge surprise on Harvin’s face when he received one of the two bikes we brought down. I had trouble holding back the tears.”

How a Difference is Made by Sponsors

What goes around, come around though. Behind every successful event are incredible sponsors who give selflessly. With an enhanced image and amplified customer support, research shows that sponsors get back even more in return.

Classy, charming and gracious accommodations. Good food and books. Sponsors from Real estate, Construction, restaurants, hotels, the locals just asking to help, you name it; our kind sponsors top the bill with their generous contributions.

How Volunteers People-Power Howler

[I:http://www.picmig.com/freedownloads/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/SunamitaLim5.jpg]The powerful impact of the Howler is bringing a world-class sport to Nicaragua.| A world-class sport is now in Nicaragua with the powerful impact of the Howler. Elite mountain bike racers from Central and South America, Europe and North America not only bring along family and/or friends - but they also end up helping out.

“It was amazing even a visiting doctor and his wife generously gave up a half day of their vacation to oversee a technically challenging section of the course to help ensure the safety of the athletes.” organizer Larry Thraen recalls.

And, local Nica pride gets a boost in volunteering for a new off-track race event that’s recognized overseas.

San Juan Howler a truly, win-win-win where people power again keep taking mountain bike racing to new heights. That what’s to howl about?

Getting Ready For A Road Biking In Australia Trip

Australia is a lovely place to live. The inland is full of great scenery and unusual wildlife, while the long stretches of coastal roads provide an ever changing view of the ocean. Road biking in Australia provides you with an excellent opportunity to really enjoy the country you call home.

When you are planning a road trip on your bicycle you really do need to be realistic about your current state of fitness. There is no point in planning a long journey if you have barely been on your bike the past few years. If you have not been training regularly you should give up your plans for a long bike ride and stick to shorter trips, at least until you have whipped yourself into shape. Once you have regained the strength in your legs, you can take a lengthy Australian road trip.

Just because you are not in good enough shape to go on a long road trip with your friends, does not mean you ca not enjoy your bike. You should plan on a short road trip, maybe something away from the city where you can can really experience the beauty of the Australian countryside. Not only is this a great way to get away from the pressures of your day to day life and relax, these short road trips are an excellent way to get your conditioned so that the next time you have an opportunity to go on a long road trip your legs will be ready.

Just because you are only going on a short road trip that will take you away from home for a few hours, you should not think you do not have to pack. There are several things you should always have on hand when you are going on any biking trip, be it long or short. The items every biker needs includes a basic first aid kit, a fully charged cell phone, and plenty of water.

Just because you are in great physical shape it does not mean you should jump on the chance to go on a long road trip with your bicycling friends. There are several things you need to think about first. Before agreeing you need to know the exact length of the outing. You should know where you are going to be staying if this is a trip that lasts for more than one day. You will need a contingency plan in case you get hurt, sick, or your bike breaks. The more you know about the proposed long road trip before you agree to go, the better.

One of the worse things you can do is leave for a long road trip without having planned ahead. Before you mount your bikes and start the trip, you and your companions should know exactly where you are going to be spending the night and how many miles you will be biking during long trips.

The night before you leave make sure that you have added several healthy snack foods, especially bananas, to your gear. You will need to snack frequently while you are biking. Make plans ahead of time so that everyone is prepared. This will make your bike ride much more enjoyable.

Even if the your road biking in Australia trip takes you down the same stretch of road that you drive every day, when you are on a bike you will find that you are better able to appreciate how wonderful the place that you call home really is. Being on a bike allows you to really appreciate the way the landscapes colors blend together and how the air smells. By the time the trip is over, you will find that you are already looking forward to your next bike adventure.

Reasons You Ought To Try Mountain Biking In Australia

Thousands of people visit Australia every year to see the famous sites and meet the notoriously friendly Aussies. If you are looking for something unique and exciting to do on your visit, Mountain Biking in Australia has been gaining popularity among tourists. Mountain biking is an adventurous way to tour the country and see the amazing sites the country has to offer.

For riders who are unsure of their mountain biking experience level and want to have multiple options, Otway Ranges, Victoria is the perfect place to go. The area is full of trails for any and every level of rider, and is a great place to spend the day. If you go with the family, some can ride and some can walk because the trails are open for both riders and hikers. Since many of the trails are meant for walkers and bikers, you may have to dismount your bike at parts and walk through especially narrow or steep areas.

It is sometimes difficult for new mountain bike riders to find trails that are both appropriate for their riding level and scenically beautiful. Otway Ranges has tons of trails for new riders that are equally as beautiful as the experienced riders’ trails. You can figure out which trails are appropriate for you by checking their level rating. Although the experienced trails may look like fun to a new rider, do not risk injury by trying out something you are not ready for.

The best thing about these trails is that they are not walking trails that were taken over by overzealous riders; they were actually specifically designed for mountain biking. A professional rider and trail designer made these trails to fit each difficulty level and challenge advanced riders. Even beginner mountain bikers will be able to feel the flow of these trails that is not present on walking trails.

There are many National Parks in Australia that are designed to protect the native flora and fauna, but allow some access for members of the public to visit and experience the beautiful nature. In parks like Kinglake National Park there are biking trails that riders can access, but keep in mind that these areas are protected and need to be taken care of. Pick up after yourself and do not be destructive when riding through this area.

Mountain bikers do not only ride on trails made for mountain biking. The Great Dividing Trail in Australia has been gaining popularity amongst mountain bikers as of late. It consists of 4 distinct sections, adding up to about 250km of trails. Because the trails were not designed for mountain bikers, there are areas that are too narrow or steep for bikers to access. In addition, there are also sections of the trails that are restricted to bikers, to keep the environment friendly for walkers.

If 250km of trails is not enough for you then you should try out the Bicentennial National trail which stretches out across more than 5,000km of land. Crossing the country on your mountain bike with the wind in your hair and adventure paved out in front of you will be an unforgettable experience. Since the trails are long, the terrain is diverse and will offer countless photo ops.

Mountain biking in Australia is the best way to experience the natural beauty of a spectacularly breathtaking country. Leave the traditional Australian tours to the tourists, and unleash the adventurer in you by seeing the sites via mountain bike! You will come away with more rugged and authentic photos, and interesting tales of your Australian adventure.

Mountain bikes are always cool to ride down trails on. Mountain bikes Melbourne has exactly what you want. Join in on those adventures with a mountain bike.

Professional Mountain Bikers Carry Along The Proper Supplies On Their Weekend Adventures

Mountain biking is generally seriously fun. If you are in very good bicycling condition, have a well-built bike and have got a sense of backwoods adventure, you can certainly do it. In case you are planning on having a mountain bike weekend adventure, you ought to start thinking about taking a variety of items.

First of all, a good backpack will be required. A sturdy pack with plenty of pockets and compartments might be best. Off-road biking involves a lot of difficult slopes and fast speeds so you are going to need a bag that will be able to safely carry your gear.

Another important item on the trip will be drinking water. It is critical to sufficiently hydrate yourself when participating in such a strenuous activity. Pack durable canteens or containers of water. Bring purifier tablets in your backpack to use with any outdoors water you may have to utilize in an emergency to replenish your bottle with to ensure that it is drinkable.

Some healthy and filling snacks will be expected too. Choose food items that can stimulate you in the course of the intense bike ride. Lightweight items such as dried fruit, energy bars, and smaller sized sandwiches will hold your energy up without weighing you down. A very small cooler that could fit in your back pack could be of good use as well.

Because mountain biking is so stressful on your feet, having great shoes is important. Reliable foot gear with shock dissipating and strong soles may well cost a bit more but they are entirely worth it. These tough shoes will help you actually go the extra mile and safeguard your feet during any accidents ?n the course of the ride.

Boulders and tree branches can occasionally produce bike break-downs and problems. Take a spare bike tire as well as other supplies so that you may be able to competently cope with any maintenance difficulties. Ripped tires, broken chains, and brake problems are all things you might find yourself dealing with. It could also be sensible to have your bicycle inspected thoroughly before your cycling jaunt begins.

Last but definitely not least, a first aid case may come in very handy as well. Hopefully you won’t need it, but accidents are always likely but are much more possible when doing something like off road bicycling. In your bag, bring a well stocked emergency kit that will aid you in addressing basic injuries like ankle sprains, scrapes and other simple wounds. The emergency kit needs to contain band aids, antiseptic, and allergy medications along with anything you can think of to bring. If you plan on riding in an area known for its wildlife and bug population, then consider bringing a snake bite system and bug spray as well.

Find just the top bike equipment shops online. And if you require specific mountain biking apparel, you will be able to find them at the top shops too.

Designed for military engagement, the Montague Paratrooper mountain bike can handle any terrain that is thrown at it and, with 24 speeds, can do all this at break neck speeds. Designed to operate in near silence, and at the highest performance, it is rugged and tough for any condition.

Airborne units: It is here that the Montague Paratrooper really comes into its own. Simply attach it to a static line and launch. Able to support ground mobility airborne units anywhere, it allows quick and effective transportation upon hitting the ground.

Reconnaissance: When a mission calls for getting close, this bike has no par. Able to get in where other vehicles can’t, with no heat given off and no noise other than from its rider, it could not be better. Able to be transported in regular vehicles too, and unfolded as necessary, it is ideal.
