Taking the Mystery out of Digital Camera Lenses

With the wide array of cameras available today, you can be easily tempted to spend between a hundred and several thousand dollars for a digital camera. How do you know which one is best for you? Some features will be ‘must-haves’ while other features may never get used. With this article, I plan to clarify some of the mysteries about various digital camera features. This article is one in a series of many that will help you make the most educated purchase you can.

Let’s look at a handful of basic digital camera features that will sound familiar to you. What type of exposure settings are available? How much zoom should you look for? what is the difference between digital and optical zoom? What is image stabilization and do you need it? There are many more digital camera features that you should review before making your decision, but for now this is plenty to discuss. Look for other articles reviewing more digital features.

Most photographers are happy to let their digital camera automatically select exposure control. This means that the camera will automatically select the exposure control and/or the aperature setting. If you grew up setting these controls yourself on your film camera, or of manual override of those controls is important for your photography, then be sure to look for manual override on the feature list for your camera possibilities.

A zoom lens is actually several different lenses or lens elements. With multiple lens combinations, the focal length can be varied resulting in bigger or smaller images appearing on the film or digital imaging surface. A zoom feature can help you frame a shot to make it appear artistically unique, and it also brings you closer to your subject. With a good camera zoom, you can quickly switch from a wide angle to a close - up shot without changing your location. A standard focal length is typically about 35mm. This gives you a generic “snapshot” view of your subject. Common zoom ranges of 3x will take that focal length up to 105mm. This range is suitable for most hobbyists or casual photographers. However if you need even more zoom, or would like to do wide angle photography, look for ranges of 24 or 28mm on the low end, to

If you are wondering what the difference between optical and digital zoom is, it’s pretty basic. Optical zoom will actually give you more detail about the subject matter when the zoom is employed. The lens elements bring you closer to your subject allowing more detail to enter the camera’s lens. With digital zoom, however, the image that arrives is enlarged, but no additional information is being gathered. if you want the best detail or are interested in having larger format prints made from your photos, always be sure to take your photos using the best optical zoom available to that frames your subject well.

Making a decision about the best digital camera for your needs is easy when you understand all the options available to you. You can save money, anxiety and stress by making a list of the features you feel are most important and then comparing to the available cameras and price points you see at your local stores. Save money and save stress by understanding your purchasing needs ahead of time.

What You Must Know Before Buying Cheap Digital Cameras

With current technology now we can have digital cameras that are as small as credit cards. It was not this way in the past. New discoveries have really changed the way we view photography entirely. Imagine having to carry a heavy bag of parts and accessories of a camera to a wedding ceremony just so you could capture some images? This was what it used to be.

Taking pictures is now a pleasure most people enjoy. It is not as tedious and cumbersome as it used to be. With the old analog cameras, you couldn’t preview the images before sending them off for printing. But now you can. You can preview your pictures right on the camera unit before printing. You could even upload the pictures to your computer for viewing at a later time. Most people also “touch-up” their pictures on their computers before printing them out. These are all features that have been made possible by the advent of cheap digital cameras.

The problem that most people face these days is the question of where to get such cheap digital cameras. Is it at all possible to get a cheap digital camera, they ask. Digital cameras are made with different features and capabilities. Because of this, the prices of digital cameras vary tremendously. Nonetheless, people who are interested about digital photography will find ways of getting their cameras.

Some of the most important things to bear in mind when deciding on buying a digital camera is the intended use of the device. What is it that you are counting on the camera to do for you? It is good to lay these things down before you begin shopping because if you don’t, you stand the chance of buying something you don’t really need.

Take into account your life style as well as your goals. Are you planning to invest considerable time taking photos or would you simply want something modest that could easily fit in your bag? For anyone who is still just starting out, don’t buy a high-end professional camera exclusively for the warranty of picture quality and zoom lens functionality. As an alternative, buy a cheap digital camera which is compact but has highly effective functions and convenient to carry all around. Investigate the fundamentals prior to spending money on high-priced specialist digital cameras.

To be completely certain that you have researched all available options before buying your cheap digital camera, make sure to also consider aspects like zoom capacity, durability of the camera, ease of cleaning, portability and overall quality. If you follow these steps you should be in a good frame of mind to make an informed decision on which cheap digital camera to get.

Hybrid Cameras Explained

Hybrid cameras, also known as mirror less cameras, are a new strain of camera that combine the compactness of your compact digital camera together with the image quality of a digital single lens reflex camera. The modern hybrid cameras don’t have a single lens reflex mirror removing some of the bulk of a DSLR, but have a larger image sensor than your standard compact digital for better photos. A hybrid camera also does not have a normal viewfinder as in a DSLR, but rather uses an LCD screen or an electronic viewfinder that can be purchased separately. The hybrid cameras have interchangeable lenses similar to a DSLR, making them versatile enough to get many types of shots. They also take incredible HD video in 780p or 1080p format.

Hybrid cameras are the answer to that middle market of customers who do not want to put money into luxury DSLRs, but would like to get better quality pictures than a compact digital. The hybrids are compact enough to transport around without difficulty. On many models, you are able to instantly record HD video without dealing with a menu. Most models run in the $300 - $1,000 range, which makes them very reasonably priced to many people.

Olympus and Panasonic use what is called a micro four thirds format for interchangeable lenses. It is an attempt to make a standard format for digital camera lenses making it possible to change with advanced DSLR lenses. Micro four thirds refer to the ratio of the image sensor, which is a 4 X 3. This size is smaller than an average 35mm, but about 10 times larger than a standard digital compact. The increased size and quality allow the photographer to shoot in lower light without the graininess connected with smaller image sensors.

Many major camera brands have come out with their own version of a hybrid camera. Panasonic led the way with the Lumix G1, then came Olympus with the PEN series. Sony announced the NEX 3 and 5. Nikon and Canon have plans to create hybrids very soon.

With all the hype surrounding the modern hybrid cameras, it remains to be seen if the marketplace for this kind of camera will take off. Sales have steadily increased since 2008 and it’s predicted to take off by 2012.

Hybrids provide you with the best of both worlds. They’re compact enough to carry around easily and powerful enough to take great photos.

During the nineteen eighties, smart cameras were introduced to the market place. In recent years, however, these devices have become smaller due to technological advancements, and as such have become more popular. Often known as intelligent cameras, these products are standalone units which are normally used in industrial environments. Because of the environment in which they are used, they are often made of very durable materials. The following paragraphs examine two products when discussing the best smart cameras.

For those industries that operate in rugged, harsh environments, the Sony SXI is ideal, the makers claim. Just A Few Tips For Taking Care Of A Digital Camera

Investing money in a good quality digital camera shouldn’t be taken lightly and after buying one it is crucial that the camera is cared for properly. You need to be aware that these are very delicate instruments and if they aren’t cared for or handled correctly they can quickly get damaged. If you are someone who hasn’t ever owned such equipment before then you may find the tips below for taking care of a digital camera extremely useful.

Tip 1 - Caring For The Lens

When handling your camera you should always ensure that your fingers never come into contact with the lens. Also as soon as you have finished using your camera make sure the cover (cap) for the lens is replaced. If you do need to clean the lens on your digital camera then use the best quality cleaning materials that you can. The main pieces of equipment you will need to purchase to take care of the lens are a brush, blower and cloth.

Tip 2 - Digital Camera Storage

When you are putting your camera away for any length of time make sure that it isn’t place somewhere that magnets are likely to be found. If you do place it close to such items then the circuitry within your camera can become damaged. Also you need to ensure that the camera won’t be adversely affected by condensation when stored away. The best way to prevent condensation damaging your digital camera is to keep the silica gel capsules in the box that came with it.

Something else that has to be done storing a digital camera away when not being used for any length of time is to remove the battery. The reason for doing this is that should they begin to corrode the acid contained inside won’t leak on to the more delicate parts of your camera.

The thing that needs to be remembered when taking care of a digital camera relating to its storage is to never place it somewhere that the temperature surrounding it is likely to fluctuate often. If the camera is placed somewhere that becomes too hot or too cold again this can cause damage to many parts of it.

Tip 3 - Protection Of The Cameras Delicate Components

A digital camera has numerous delicate components to make it work and which need to be cared for properly. One of the most delicate components of such cameras is the memory card. Not only are these very small but also very delicate. If that wasn’t enough you need to be careful when handling the panels that cover over the USB connection or the battery as these sometimes are quite delicate and can break off easily when being opened.

We hope you have found our tips for taking care of a digital camera useful. If you keep in mind these things when using yours then of course you will have a camera that will last for many years to come and will produce great shots every time it is used.

Even though digital cameras have changed through the years, eBay Classifieds will forever remain free, friendly, and local.

More Megapixels, better camera?

When considering buying new digital cameras one of the important specifications to look at is the megapixel count with higher counts being better on the whole.

The megapixel count is the number of pixel sensor points that receive photons and register their impact to create a digital image. One megapixel is a million pixels with the maximum resolution of images created by the camera being limited by their sensor size. Digital images are made up of small squares created with the information received by each pixel with each having colour and light level information. Having too few pixels will leave images with visible blockiness and fail to preserve fine detail.

The number of megapixels can easily be calculated based on the maximum resolution of the digital cameras images multiplying the width by the height will give the total pixel count.

Very high megapixel counts have positive and negative features, in low light conditions too few photons hit each individual pixel as they are very small leading to noisy and unclear images. It also means the photos created contain more information resulting in longer processing time and needing more storage so it may be harder to take as many photos in a limited time and fewer will be stored on a given memory card. Noisy is a variable problem with high megapixel sensors, this is when adjacent pixels interfere with each other leading to the creation of image pixels with the wrong colours, usually very visible as speckles on dark areas of photographs.

The sensitivity to noise varies from camera to camera, some deal with it better than others making it a good idea to look at sample images or try digital cameras for yourself before buying.

Greater numbers of megapixels allow higher resolution images to be taken which gives better detail and, for less experienced photographers, can be better than a lower megapixel count as it allows images to be cropped, reduced in size, to improve the framing of the subject without losing the detail that makes the photo look professional. How many megapixels you need also depends on what you will use the photographs for, any photograph that will be expanded to display a section of it or displayed in a larger size such as a large print or poster will benefit from having more megapixels in the digital cameras sensor.

Manufacturers are well aware of the advantages and disadvantages of higher megapixel counts as well as their customers’ perception that more is always better which leads them to match the higher pixel counts with higher end hardware and better cameras making the pixel count a good indication of the overall quality of the camera.

A high megapixel count is a good specification for a buyer of digital cameras to look at, though it should not be the only thing looked at as all features should be compared between models. It will give a good idea of where a camera stacks up relative to its competition.

Higher megapixel cameras are becoming an increasingly popular inclusion on most mobile phones. This can be seen on many new smartphones releases like the LG Optimus 2X.

Applications in the Latest Digital Single-Lens Reflex Cameras

Like every other technological innovation, cameras have also experienced a sea change ever since the 4×5 film still photo cameras. To begin with came the digital cameras which brought novice photography on to a easier grade. First-time photography lovers were able to capture clean and even focused pics on their digital cameras on auto mode.

Obviously one can find superior models in digital cameras which enable the consumer to regulate settings to modify the quality and furthermore quality of the image based on the surroundings. Nikon digital cameras came out with their Coolpix which epitomized the very small digital cameras. Inexpensive and easy to manage, this kind of model grabbed the market by storm as Canon made an effort to catch up by introducing its Ixus collection right after the Powershot.

Nevertheless, in August 2008 and in September 2010 Canon and Nikon came up with their own very first DSLR camera series respectively. The Digital Single-Lens Reflex cameras are on a superior grade within the hierarchy of digital cameras due to their excellent image standard together with lens switching functions. A DSLR camera issimply different from a regular digital camera in that the pixels in the first are superior than that in the second item. This means that despite the fact that both styles have the identical megapixel count, a DSLR camera can provide pics of a superior lucidity than the usual digital camera.

The earliest DSLR Canon was the XS 1000D and the Nikon rival was the D3100. Other than the absolute backward compatibility of lenses on the Canon model, lacking in Nikon, both of these cameras were identical.

Among the list of DSLR cameras Nikon digital cameras came up with three important models, namely the D3100, the D5000 and the D7000. When compared with its Canon alternatives, the two brands are neck to neck competing regarding attributes, compatibility and also design. Nevertheless, Canon DSLR typically cost more as a consequence of mild variations say for example a better quality video resolution (1080p) in the Canon T2i 550D, equivalent to the Nikon D5000 (720p). The recording file on Canon would be way larger than in Nikon.

The Nikon D5000 has also a flexible LCD screen which the Canon Ti 550D does not. But, the Canon camera is superior in its ISO range (100-12800) over the Nikon one (100-6400).

The Nikon D7000 as well as the Canon 60D are on the top of the food chain in the DSLR hierarchy. Either of them are equally great and are generally only preferred judging by brand devotion.

What to Look For in Digital Cameras For Kids

When buying a digital camera for a child, what should you look for? The age of the child, his or her knowledge of cameras and photography, and of course, your budget all factor into your purchase. The various kinds of digital cameras available can make it difficult to choose the right one, especially if you’re shopping for a child. As you search for the right digital camera for your child, use the following guidelines to help you.

If you aren’t buying a digital camera made specifically for children, keep in mind how easy it will be for your child to hold, point, and carry the camera. Depending on the age of your child, you may want to consider getting a more adult style camera. If you do this, though, make sure that your child can handle it properly. For one thing, you don’t want a bulky camera that will be awkward for a child to carry around. You may also want to choose as simple a model as you can. It can be extremely difficult to figure out a camera with too many buttons or features. In a lot of ways, choosing a camera for a child is the same as finding one for an adult but you need to consider how easy it will be to hold.

Another thing to consider when buying a digital camera for a child is the type of batteries that it uses and how long they will last. It can get expensive to replace disposable batteries which is what most cameras made specifically for kids use. You could look into an adult style camera that has a rechargeable lithium battery and comes with the charger. Because children aren’t always someplace where they can recharge their batteries, you should look for a camera whose battery will last a long time.

An SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera may be something to look into, even if you think it might be too advanced. An SLR might be your best choice, though, especially if your child is ready to move beyond the simple toy cameras.

There are many options when you look at digital cameras for kids. While you can start your child with a toy camera, eventually they will probably want a more adult model to use. And in today’s culture, kids are becoming interested in technology at a younger age. Use the above suggestions to assist you in your search for the right digital camera for your child.
