Take the Ten Mile Canyon National Recreation Trail to Copper Mountain

Posted at 8:48 am under Recreation and Sports

Cruisin’ downhill from Vail Pass

If spectacular views and a minimum of pedaling are more your speed, you’d definitely enjoy the riding down from Vail Pass. Why pedal uphill when Pioneer Sports can shuttle you to the top with a van? This 14 mile route passes through Copper Mountain where you can amble around its three resort villages or just connect directly with the Ten Mile Canyon Bikeway back to Frisco. This trip is great fun for all ages. Shuttle times are 9am, 10 am and 11 am daily.

All bike rentals from Pioneer Sports include a bike helmet and lock. All bikes are well maintained by our expert staff with your safety and comfort in mind. You can choose from bicycles like the Jamis path cruisers or Sun Bicycle Tandems for the leisure rider. Pioneer Sports offers full suspension mountain bikes for the more adventurous and experienced rider. Rental reservations are recommended as this is very popular during the Spring and Summer seasons.

The Ten Mile Canyon paved bike path starts at centrally located Frisco, Colorado. Its westbound paved bike trails to lead towards Copper Mountain resort. Snaking between the towering peaks and colossal walls of the Ten Mile Range and Ten Mile Creek, it follows the historic Denver-South Park Pacific narrow gauge railroad, gaining about 600 feet in the first 6 miles. At 14 miles, the round trip Frisco to Copper ride takes about 2 hours.

The elevations range from 10,000 to 12,00 feet so it is important to be prepared for physical activity at higher altitudes. Mountain air is cool and dry so you can lose a lot of water without realizing it. Be sure to maintain adequate hydration and take plenty of water with you on your bike ride. Checkout the Pioneer Sports Bike Shop for deals on water bottles and biking accessories as well as bicycle rentals.

Bicyclists can continue in play mode when stopping at the ski resort with a Copper “Summer Day” Activity pass. Fun modes of transport from go-karts to the Diggler off-road scooter are available with the pass. A more mellow approach could include a round of mini-golf or the simple world-class views from 11,250 ft. at the top of the American Eagle chairlift, also home to the Solitude barbecue. Shops and restaurants in the East and Center Villages at the resort’s base are open in summer. Copper can also be explored from a paddle boat on West Lake.
